The purpose of this course is to introduce the forecaster to the service and products produced by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC). Theoretical concepts are presented on the fundamentals, volcanic ash and aviation, volcano monitoring and observational data, volcanic ash detection techniques and volcanic ash forecasting.
